Nevada Desert in Las Vegas hosts an annual festival called ‘Burning Man’ that has gained much worldwide acclaim over the years. Well we think this year they need to invite stunt man Joe Toedtling who takes the term ‘burning man’ quite literally… for which he too is known worldwide for his talents as a daredevil stunt man and actor.
As you do, Joe decided holding just the one unique world record in body burn duration wasn’t enough, and so he started training for another… this time for running the longest distance whilst set on fire. I guess the only other variation on a record as unique as this could also be ‘Fastest run whilst on fire’ – something maybe even 100m Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt could also be tempted to join Joe on for another collective accolade.
After months of preparation Joe got in the zone, and as you can see in the video footage above he successfully set a brand new distance world record whilst running on fire… the previous was set at a distance of 162.27m by probably the only other man on planet earth who would be daring enough to even attempt such a dangerous stunt… Ted Bachelor from USA. Joe ran an incredible 196.57m in the Main Square location in Passail, Austria… and completely doused in flames!
Talking about the record he told us:
“It is an amazing feeling knowing I achieved what I did…. and with all the wonderful people who gathered around the square, each and everyone pushing me to set a new record. The run itself was extremely difficult because the weight of the clothes were about 50kg and so it was so hard to run this distance engulfed on fire… but finaly I made it!”
When he found out the distance he had achieved he said:
“I was amazed that I’d nearly run 200 metres, and now I can proudly say I am a multiple record holder of two of the most unique stunts out there. And quite literally, the hottest!”
Joe, 35 in addition to breaking records and running whilst on fire is also an aspiring actor, and stunt coordinator for big budget films. He has worked in Hollywood movies including “the monuments men”, “Hitman: Agent 47″, “Point Break” remake and many more.
“I also did the stunt coordination for the tv series “covert affairs” and “Grimm’s Snow White”…. in the future I very much want to expand my work as a professional actor as I’ve already got a lot of experience in acting and it’s definitely something I love to do!” he told us.
“And if there are any Hollywood directors looking for an actor not afraid to be set on fire once in a while, they know who to call!!”
And whilst we make some calls to the organisers of the annual Burning Man Festival in Las Vegas, be sure to never, ever even think about challenging Joe in his ‘human torch’ endeavours… he’s a pro daredevil who knows what he’s doing… we hope!!!
