If you have ever wondered what it must feel like to be dragged a long distance whilst attached to a horse at a speed of over 20 mph… oh, and whilst you happen to also be on fire; then fret not, you will never have to experience it yourself because our daredevil friend and all-round ‘Stunt-Man of Steel’ Joe Toedtling in Austria has just done it and has had minimal scrapes to tell us the tale!
Joe is well known for his extreme endurance stunts, often involving lots of fire and this time he kept to tradition by going to another level in terms of the stunt being as ‘out there’ as possible. This weekend Joe was dragged along a gravel track by what we can only imagine must have been quite the confused, yet highly trained horse… and clocking speeds of 20mph+ whilst set on fire.
Joe who is 35, is highly experienced in the art of being set on fire professionally and with the right science always in play. He has worked as an expert stuntman on some major Hollywood film productions and when fire is involved; as it was heavily this weekend, he wears several layers of clothing and a special cooling gel along with metal shin and elbow pads for stunts such as this one.
And as you can see in the above video and the overall pics from the day, Joe laid down on his front and was set on fire before the specially trained stunt horse dragged him across the ground.
Joe travelled 500 metres along the bumpy, stone-ridden pathway, beating a previous world record in this feat (yes, it has been done before!!) of 470m.
But that wasn’t the end of the show… especially considering that Joe had been forced to promise his wife that he will make this his last extreme endeavour and so the stunt man was then dragged a further 582m by a quad bike whilst still set on fire. The word Incredible literally must have ‘Joe Toedtling’ listed in its dictionary definition… some may say also ‘Crazy!’
To end his ambitious list of stunt endeavours on a high, Joe now holds multiple records for the longest distance pulled by a horse and longest distance dragged by a quad bike whilst on fire. We wouldn’t like to bet money on whether anyone else will ever be able to beat these either.
This latest stunt of Toedtling took place next to the very picturesque backdrop of Teichalm Lake in Almenland, Austria, this weekend.
Joe sent out a group email straight after having achieved one of his most ambitious stunts to date by describing the success:
“It was just Hardcore!!”
He later described the process to us:
“I was going about 35kph (21mph) which might not sound like that much but when you are being dragged along a gravel track and also on fire it certainly feels quick. I was dragged 500m by the horse, and then 582m by the quad bike. Everyone seemed to enjoy it and I am not sure they have or ever will see anything like this again!”
When asked about how the added variable of being set on fire whilst being dragged a long distance, Joe described it literally:
“It was pretty hot as I was on fire!” he joked.
The pro-stunt artist, who who has worked on major films including Point Break and Agent 47, has for now promised his wife and family that this will be his last stunt like this. He said with a cheeky glint in his eye, and also whilst laughing to himself:
“I have promised my wife I won’t be doing anything like this again!”
Joe’s previous stunt can be SEEN HERE when he ran a long distance through the streets whilst set ablaze, another worlds first achieved by the fiery daredevil.
We wish Joe every success in his endeavours as an actor and pro stuntman and are ready for if or when he gets convinced to come out of retirement… for now, despite his love for fire… to us, he is one of the COOLEST badass stuntmen on Planet Earth!!!
NOTE: For obvious reasons we do not advise anyone attempt to recreate this stunt or any of Joe’s previous ‘fiery’ stunts. Joe is a professional with a highly experienced team working with him. Oh, and he also has balls of steel!!!

Special thanks to Joe and his entire team.
