This week, an epic endurance contest was held in China testing the ability of 2 phenomenal athletes, our old friend George Hood from USA who was the existing record holder for planking endurance (see our previous news feature showcasing George) and Meo Weidong, a policeman in China who this week smashed the previous world record and became a national hero on his own turf.
Mao Weidong, as is seen in the video above, remained in the position for a staggering eight hours, one minute and one second. George whose previous record was deemed as unbeatable achieved 7 hours and 40 minutes on the day, which is still absolutely incredible.
The plank is a core strength exercise that involves maintaining a position similar to push-ups for the maximum possible time. We dare you to see how long you last… we tried, and even 2 – 3 minutes is painful!
Well done to both George and Mao… making the rest of us feel like mere mortals in comparison!
