On a cold day in New York City, and in honor of International Day of Happiness, a kamikaze team of happiness pro-fresh-ionals in the US, all armed with a truckload of 10,000 roses took to the streets to #GiveHappy this week and spread a bit of momentary joy.
On a mission to warm New Yorkers’ hearts with fresh, colourful flowers and create smiles on everyones faces they also reminded everyone about the power of an unconditional, positive gesture to others.
Since 2013, International Day of Happiness – also known as Happiness Day – is celebrated annually on March 20. As part of so many other worldwide festivities on this day the stunt reminded New Yorkers that a small act of kindness, such as the gift of flowers, can make smiles bloom for almost anyone of any age or demographic. It’s the universally accepted gesture of love and good wishes, and it certainly had an affect on the people receiving the free gift in Times Square, New York.
Previous research has revealed a link between flowers and a person’s happiness. The data shows that fresh flowers make people feel joyful. Fresh flowers not only make their recipient happy, but they also create lasting happiness in the giver too.
The stunt was conducted in conjunction with the ProFlowers brand in the US, and General Manager, Senior Vice President Laura Szeliga told Newsivity:
“At ProFlowers, we’re in the flower gifting business – but more importantly, we’re in the business of making people happy. It’s what we do, day in and day out,” she said.
“We selected the gift of multi-colored roses because they are lively and exciting – the perfect symbol to celebrate Happiness Day. What better way to create happiness than with beautiful, fresh and colorful flowers!” she also added.
With the hustle and bustle of everyday life, ProFlowers is encouraging everyone to stop and smell the roses on Happiness Day. Join the global cause of creating a happier world and share joy by tagging @ProFlowers with the #GiveHappy hashtag this International Day of Happiness.
The ProFlowers’ happiness team also visited various iconic locations throughout the City and spread the flowers, smiles and kindness far and wide. In just one day, the team of seven happiness pro-fresh-ionals melted the hearts of New Yorkers and just of the comments heard included:
“I’ve never seen roses being given in the City like this before.”
“Everybody loves flowers. They bring people together.”
“I feel so happy. I feel special.”
“They make me feel beautiful.”
