Introducing Caim from Colombia in Latin America… also known as ‘The Colombian Devil’ due to his unique and quite striking visual appearance following much body modifications made to his face and entire body.
Yet despite his striking modifications, and quite menacing appearance, he is a very intelligent, well-spoken, caring and creative individual, not that this should be something we are surprised by in any way because appearance never has any correlation with intelligence or ones character. Caim works as a professional tattoo artist, graphic designer and body painter in Mexico where he is now settled, and he regularly gets involved in charity fundraising and involvements / donations for animal welfare charities across Latin America. Another fact that often surprises for much the same reasons of being judged first by the way he looks. He also works as a freelance hair stylist and provides this service for his friends and family.
In terms of the modifications that Caim has made to his body, these include Dermal implants in his arms and his head, piercings all over his body, intricate tattoos which also includes complete black tattooing of his eyeballs. When talking about the reasons for why he chose to modify his body to such an extreme he told us:
“Body modification culture has been around for ages, it is not just a fashion or a temporary fad although people presume it is. One of the key motivations for my own body modifications has been to be unique and different compared to others in the world. I believe that we should focus more on people’s inner beauty and the actions that truly define us, rather than just our physical aspects or what we look like.”
Caim brings with him a unique message for the world around the concept of beauty and peoples outward appearances. Something he calls ‘the perfection of unconventional beauty’ and body modification he feels is an artistic expression, or creation even -
“People like politicians and so-called leaders can wear suits and ties and look beautiful yet do very ugly things, I want to show that it is more about each of our daily actions that show what our soul is like, and not our faces or what we show the world with our image or appearance.”
In October 2014 Caim has launched his DJ career and is touring with a female model + DJ by the name of Gisela who plays the part of an angel on stage and the two battle on the decks with a unique ‘Devil vs Angel’ music set. They have received extensive media coverage across Latin America with the act and were also recently interviewed by BBC World News in Latin America.
“I have always been heavily into music, especially Latin styles, EDM and world fusion and I have been training as a DJ for many months. I am excited to bring this unique concept and theme and people will definitely enjoy our show. We have already been travelling around Latin America and we are travelling to Europe and UK end of October and early November for some Halloween appearances.”
In addition to the live performances, Caim will also be making TV and media appearances during his trips and is planning a special personal event whilst in the UK.
“I am planning something extra special in London, UK and would love for all to attend. I will be marrying my long-term girlfriend who is a body modification model from Italy and we are very much in love.”
Caim and Amy have been together for some time and have regularly appeared at tattoo conventions and body mod events around the world, but they have kept out of media until now.
“My fiancé Amy is also very unique in appearance, and we are both planning to show the world that regardless of what people may think about how we appear, we will show that the good we can do in the world is most important. This is a message for everyone, don’t care about what people think about you or what you look like, just be a good person and do good things!”
Caim and many individuals like him worldwide wish to stand out from the crowd, and not everyone will like how they appear or the creative aspects of their modifications. But unlike the suited or outwardly beautiful looking villains of our day today, they are determined to make a positive contribution to the world around them and prove their goodness through their daily actions. And whilst doing so, they also stay true to having fun, enjoying life and spreading more happiness for others. Will they still be only judged by appearance alone?
“Mankind has been responsible for ruining the planet in many ways, by wasting resources, destroying natural habitats of animals, and with much war. Because of this, I think animals are far better than even us humans!”
says Caim.
On the issue of being judged by others, Caim’s own family have not been able to accept his decisions to change his appearance to what they deem as too extreme. Having been raised in a Catholic family, his choices have been difficult for them to understand and this is one of the reasons he was forced to move to Mexico where he feels more accepted by communities.
