WARNING: DO NOT ATTEMPT TO RECREATE THIS HIGHLY SPECIALIST STUNT. THE PRACTITIONERS INVOLVED ARE TRAINED PROFESSIONALS AND ALL HEALTH + SAFETY PRECAUTIONS WERE IN PLACE.
Exactly One year ago Matthew Menczyk & Body Modification practitioner Russ Foxx, attempted a very niche, and quite extreme stunt to achieve “The World’s Largest Body Piercing Session”.
It’s not the kind of thing many would volunteer to take part in, but when in the name of raising much needed funds for good causes, it seems Matthew and Russ are game. The second question we had, after WHY? (read below to learn why!) … was how do you even prepare for such a gruelling stunt?
“We both have our own separate ways preparing for something like this. For Matthew it is obviously a very severe physical experience and so he takes long, cold showers. I basically just make sure I am well rested and in a positive, mental and physical state.” said Russ during our chat.
The target to beat in 2015 was 3,900 and they exceeded it with a whopping 4,550… OUCH!!!
But being the worlds best at something is sometimes just not good enough. The need to exceed ones best becomes the new target and thats exactly what happened in time for NewYear 2016.
At Human Kanvas Tattoo in Calgary, Alberta another attempt in the name of charity took place successfully and a total of 4,745 needles were achieved in support of those in need of shelter and help over the holiday season and onwards!
“It was definitely an intense test if endurance for Matthew and I both. There were many hours of prep work that we put into this before even attempting the stunt. But successfully achieving our goal and all in the name of helping a great charity just made it all worthwhile and was our key motivation.” said Russ.
It took a gruelling 9 hours and 13 minutes in total to achieve the final count of 4,745 which is really quite remarkable, albeit very dangerous too. For obvious reasons we would advise that you do not replicate this stunt in any way whatsoever.
We asked Russ what his message would be to the wider world; a majority of whom will think that they are crazy for even thinking about doing something so extreme for charity:
“If you are one of a kind, which we all are then be proud of it. If you can do something that no one else can or would, then what’s wrong with letting your unique flag fly high. And if you can use your abilities to benefit those less fortunate, its your duty!”
Now that’s the essence of this that we love and who are we to judge anyone else’s good deed for another.
Here is the attempt footage from early 2015:
ABOUT THE CHARITY FOR WHO RUSS + MATTHEW WERE FUNDRAISING:
For almost twenty years, Inn from the Cold has operated as an agency of last resort for those children and their families who find themselves, literally, with no place else to go. They go far beyond provision of shelter, food, and clothing. The services also focus on the many support needs that ensure children and their families begin the process of recovering their dignity, their self-worth, their independence, and their hope. They offer shelter, sanctuary, and healing through an integrated continuum of services that includes emergency shelter, instrumental needs, primary medical care, case management, therapeutic early childhood programming, supported housing, and an open door policy to all in need.
Donations to the shelter for who the money was being raised are still accepted online or on site to: innfromthecold.org
