Martin Steer, aged 40, from Essex in UK is a Fitness enthusiast who became the proud father of twin boys Nathan and Luke exactly one year ago. His friends didn’t think he would be able to continue staying fit after becoming a new Dad of 2, and so he decided to prove he can do it by continuing to run and train whilst pushing his twin baby buggy. As a result of his determination, and all-round attitude for having fun; he has just entered the world record books for completing the ‘Fastest Half Marathon whilst pushing a Pram’, and achieved on the 1st birthday of his sons.
In his own words Martin told us:
“In addition to proving my friends wrong, I’m also quite competitive and so the idea of becoming a word record holder appealed just for my boys to grow up and also be proud of!”
Martin and his wife both love quirky and fun challenges and have both taken part in a number of extreme marathon challenges around the world. Since becoming parents, they have both continued their training and included their twins as much as possible.
As you can see in the above video, they also included the twins in a spot of training themselves; although most of the time the twins stayed asleep whilst mum and dad did the hard work!
“The only time the twins would wake slightly was when the crowds started cheering louder as we ran. They love the fresh open air, and are very comfortable taking the views along the way.” he told us.
There is an existing record category for running with a single buggy, but this is the first time anyone has set a ‘Fastest’ world record for running with a twin buggy.
“I’m glad to have set a brand new world record and I’m determined to keep it. If I run on a flatter course I know I can improve the time considerably although the boys are growing fast and are naturally getting heavier too!” said Martin.
Martin and his wife Sarah are determined to continue their search for more fitness adventures around the world, having completed a number of unique races and all despite being busy working parents of 2. They are making a scrapbook of memories along the way to show their kids when older.
Certainly a great inspiration for both parents and non-parents out there too who may be resisting getting out due to the hectic schedules of being a Mum or Dad… or maybe just because it’s Winter season and it’s so darn cold! Whatever your excuse… let Martin and the Steer family be your inspiration and if your friends tell you being a parent means you will become tired and unfit… prove them wrong just like Martin did!
Martin… you are a true legend!!!
